The Maple Woods Park in LaGrange County Indiana taps maple trees and boils maple sap turning it into maple syrup. They do this every year. And every year there is a weekend where the public is invited to see the process. And - my favorite part - is a breakfast fund raiser takes place where pancakes and sausage is offered for breakfast. Of course this famous syrup is used on the pancakes.
During this event you can see the trees that are tapped and park rangers tell you about the process of tapping trees, gathering sap and processing it into syrup.
This year's event is March 21 and 22.
The following pictures are from a few days ago when I accompanied the ARC Photo Club into the park for a special time of taking pictures. We had an appointment and permission. While I was there to help them I managed a few shots of my own.
The pictures below have captions.

Here they are pouring syrup into buckets. The sap has been boiled and turned into syrup in this long boiler.
The road through the maple forest with metal buckets.
A metal bucket where the sap has overflowed and frozen on the side of the bucket.
More metal buckets.
Frozen sap in a metal bucket. As you can see the sap is clear and looks like water. So it takes a lot of energy to drive away the water and leave the sugar (syrup) behind.
A park worker shows us how the color of the sap has changed from clear to a golden brown.
