Ninilcik Alaska 2013

The Church Transfiguration of Our Lord church above the old village of Ninilchik, Alaska June 2013.

If you are a photographer wouldn't you have to stop? I am and we did.

This was our first trip to Alaska.

This church sits on a bluff. If you walk to the front of the church and look down it is a long way down. To the left is the original village of Ninilchik. Straight ahead is the inlet from the ocean and across the bay are snow capped mountains.

When we looked down we saw a small RV park. That is where we spent a couple of nights. In 2017 when we were back the RV park was closed and we missed being there.

Up in the bluffs were bald eagles: mature ones and immature ones. There were literally hundreds of eagles along the shoreline.

Below is an immature one at the bottom of the bluffs and you can see a the mountains across the bay.

This eagle let me take this picture because he had a fish that he was eating on at the base of the rock you see here. He wasn't comfortable enough to take an eye off me, but not uncomfortable enough to leave his meal.

In the old village itself was this boat. I think it was being repaired or maybe it was on display. I don't know which. The village had relocated up on the highway and away from the water on higher ground, but there was still significant activity in the village.
